SPRING TACKLE RUGBY
Each spring PAC organizes two boys tackle teams (5th & 6th, 7th & 8th) which will be play in the Rugby Virginia middle school league. The games will be on Saturdays, possibly an occasional Sunday, and run from March to May and will be played in Northern Virginia or at home.
When Do We Start? When do we play and practice
We usually arrange a few practices or clinics beginning in December to shake off the cobwebs, keep kids moving, enjoy hot chocolate afterwards, and most importantly, introduce new players and families to the game. Look for notices posted on our web site and via social media.
Practices will generally be twice per week, with a few extra sessions on free weekends in the preseason and regular season. Practice location is TBC, but it is expected to be in Forest Glen, Kensington or the Bethesda/Chevy Chase areas.
What do We Need to Do? Renew your USA Rugby membership!
Your player’s USA Rugby membership is a critical part of our program and the sport overall. U13/U15 TACKLE players should register with “Potomac Athletic Club Youth Tackle” as a “youth player”. (This will cover any tag rugby activities as well.)
Online registration is available at: https://webpoint.usarugby.org/
Use the search box to find the correct membership group in the state of Maryland:
Potomac Athletic Club Youth Tackle (U13/U15 TACKLE)
Complete or renew your registration as directed on the USA Web site.
Renew your PAC club registration
We will be posting and emailing information on PAC registration for the spring season when that opens (typically in late January or early February).
What Else Can You Do? Spread the word!
We need more players! The Spring season is based on full 15-players per side games. We recognize some players may elect to participate in two sports during the spring season. Therefore, the teams will need plenty of players for throughout the season. Invite your friends and other families – players from DC, Montgomery and PG County are welcome!
What Does My Player Need to Get Started?
Cleats and a mouthpiece are the two most important pieces. The fees will cover shorts, socks and other team items. The club will supply game jerseys.
Can My Player Also Play Another Sport in the Spring?
Yes! We recognize that some of our athletes are multi-sport kids! We just ask for a commitment to come to as many practices and games as you can and let coaches know ahead of time if there are conflicts. (Parents are expected to help manage the safety and welfare of their young athletes, and help us ensure they can handle the dual sports, school, etc.) Safety and successful training is important, so players will be expected to demonstrate key contact skills in practices to ensure safety in contact before playing in games. Of course, we hope that rugby will become your player’s favorite sport in every season!
