Over the past few years PAC has created tackle rugby opportunities for middle school players as well as some limited activity for high school aged players (typically anchored by alumni of the program).
PAC has run a summer “Intro to tackle” program along side the tag program for many years. Designed as a contact opportunity for both experienced and new players, the contact practices will typically be once per week, with players being expected to participate in at least one non-contact practices as well. The ball handling, decision skills and game awareness development incorporated into the non-contact practices are directly applicable to the contact version of the sport. In fact, players at this age would be served well by attending all practices. In addition to the practice work, and small sided games, the goal each summer is to also incorporate live scrimmages against other u13 & u15tackle programs in the area.
In addition, PAC has two middle school teams (5th & 6th, 7th & 8th grade) that participate in the Rugby Virginia spring middle school competition. (PAC Spring Middle School Tackle) Parent and player interest drove the successful launch of the spring tackle teams for this competition. This is appropriate for new rugby players or those who are graduating from a tag program. It is an excellent way for players to grow skills and knowledge and prepare for high school rugby, or simply try tackle rugby on for size!
Further, PAC has occasionally offered U17 and U19 summer 7s for our former youth players and area high school players who are seeking an opportunity to continue building skills and have some summer fun. The u17s and U19s will play in area 7s tournaments as there is interest.
Please note all players MUST have a mouthpiece and be registered with USA Rugby for contact practice and games.
